Why Richard Chose the Programme
Richard approached the Client Centred programme at a crossroads in his leadership journey. “I was experiencing different feelings about my next role and the programme represented an environment and opportunity to step-back and reassess what’s most important to me, what I enjoy and where I feel I can add the most value.”
The Programme Experience
The five-day programme provided Richard with something he hadn’t anticipated – a safe space for honest reflection and diverse perspectives. “I had the opportunity to talk about things going on in my head, it’s a scary place to be, but through doing this and putting myself in both a ‘client’ and a ‘consultant’ role I learnt a lot, it gave me lots of food for thought and I hope I was also helping others too.”
The intensive nature of the programme was both challenging and rewarding. “It was intense – you go up and down throughout the day and through the week but all those interactions in a client centred approach really made me reflect on the things I say and do.”
The programme’s flexible structure, whilst initially uncomfortable, proved to be one of its strengths. “Not having a rigid structure for each day got me out of my comfort zone. The long days were worth it.”
Key Outcomes
The programme delivered clarity on multiple levels. Beyond professional development, Richard gained personal insights that shifted his perspective on work life balance. “There’s clarity in not just thinking about it from one dimension.” Most significantly, the programme reinforced the fundamental connection between people focused leadership and results. “Results are all about people and being client centred – whilst I knew this already the techniques we learnt and practiced will definitely help me to do this in an even better way and I’m sure I will take them with me into my next role.”
Application & Recommendations
Richard now advocates for the programme, but with clear guidance for potential participants. “I would recommend it – but be clear what you want to achieve. The pre-work helps with this and you almost don’t realise how important this is until afterwards.” He goes on to say that “It’s a great opportunity to broaden horizons about what leadership is all about.”
His advice for future participants emphasises openness: “Go into it with an open mind, be willing to go to places that make you feel uncomfortable. Use the opportunity to interact with others. For those leaders that already focus on how people are doing and how they can support effective problem solving with their teams there is always more to learn on how to turn this into really good habits through practice and taking a different approach, some of the tools and models were really interesting and useful for this.”
The Lasting Impact
When asked about his biggest takeaway, Richard highlighted the programme’s most memorable element: “The feedback gift – that part was certainly very motivational.”
The structured approach to receiving and giving feedback has continued to influence his leadership style, reinforcing his belief that effective leadership is fundamentally about understanding and connecting with people.
